Nancy Birnes is a writer, editor, and publisher. A summa cum laude graduate of Princeton University, she won the Samuel Shellabarger Award for Creative Writing and published her first novel, Cleaning House, with Farrar, Straus, and Giroux in 1980. It has been translated into six foreign languages and published in nine countries. She is married to William J. Birnes and together they have 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
